Ashton Kutcher finally files divorce papers

Separation and divorce are not the same thing. While a married couple may decide to separate, live apart, and even see other people, a marriage remains legally binding until a divorce is filed. Although the formal legal process can be unappealing to some, a full and notarized divorce can lead to a better long-term financial and personal situation-particularly for high-asset couples.

One celebrity couple with particularly high assets began the formal divorce process last week after over a year of married but separated life. Aston Kutcher and Demi Moore will soon arrive at a finalized divorce after Kutcher filed initial paperwork last week. Kutcher reportedly shocked Moore with the filing after she had initially hoped to privately negotiate a mutual settlement.

The two celebrities initially split in November 2011 after Kutcher was found to be having an affair with a 23-year-old. In that time Kutcher has become the highest paid actor on television, netting $24 million in the past year for his role on the program "Two And A Half Men."

Sources from the couple's respective circles have intimated that Kutcher's decision to move forward with the filing may be based on his new television earnings. A divorce finalized before the end of the year would have a considerable bearing on upcoming IRS tax filings

One thing is certain-a full and finalized divorce settlement will allow both Moore and Kutcher to lead free single lives unencumbered by a lingering marriage that has long since proven defunct. For those with high asset holdings considering divorce, quick action and the help of a family law attorney can help bring about an expedient, favorable outcome.
