Indiana Pacers all-star looking to obtain full custody of child

Texas families may be interested in the legal battle being waged between one basketball star and a woman who gave birth to a baby girl that may have been his child. Pending the results of a new paternity test, the player may be seeking to exclude the child's mother from custody.

Paul George, an all-star player for the Indiana Pacers, has petitioned a New York court for sole legal and physical custody of a two-month-old child. The request is contingent on a new paternity test. A previous test that was given prior to the May 1 delivery of the child concluded that it was his, but George contends that the methodology behind the test may have skewed the results. Should the second test show that George is the father of the child, he reportedly plans to embrace the girl as his own.

George initiated the child custody dispute against the child's mother, currently residing in New York with her family. In his motion, George states that he believes that he is the best choice for sole custody since his financial resources will allow him to best care for the baby as she grows up. He says that the mother is unemployed and has not sought employment though the mother insists that this is solely due to time spent caring for the baby. She responded by arguing that George's travel schedule would not be conducive to properly raising a child.

In situations where the primary custody of a child is an issue, an attorney may be able to help. The attorney may be helpful in examining the situation and determining what would be in the best interests of the child.
