Using Facebook to serve legal papers

For Texas residents who cannot find their spouses to serve them with divorce papers may be able to do the deed with help from the Internet. On April 7, a Manhattan Supreme Court Justice ruled that a New York woman could serve her husband with divorce papers over Facebook after she spent years trying to track him down.

Collecting child support from Social Security in Texas

It can be highly frustrating for parents who have a court order for child support that the other parent simply doesn't follow. In the event that the non-paying parent receives Social Security benefits, their benefits payments may be garnished to pay child support.

The role of child support and shocking data regarding arrears

The monthly amount that a noncustodial parent is ordered to pay in support for children is based on the parent's income. The calculation varies from 20 percent for one child to 40 percent for five or more children. Across the United States, more than $26 billion was distributed in 2013 in support payments. Of this, more than $3.5 billion went to custodial parents and children in Texas. However, noncustodial parents in the state also owe almost $11 billion in unpaid support.
