Former Cowboys star and wife come to custody deal

Many remember Deion Sanders for his captivating play on the field during his time with the Dallas Cowboys. However, the hall of fame cornerback has, in recent years, had a difficult time off the field that belies the verve of his time in the NFL. As Sanders's very high-asset and high-stakes divorce from estranged wife Pilar continues, the establishment of child custody terms for the couple appears to be a mixed bag for Sanders.

A McKinney judge ruled earlier last month after lengthy courtroom mediation that Sanders and his wife must share custody of their three children. Both parents had sought sole custody of the children, but the judge determined that it would be in the best interest of the children, who range in ages from 9 to 12, to spend time with both their mother and father.

Sanders, however, was granted the privilege to determine where the children's primary residence will be, and will also have the power to decide where the couple's children are educated in the future both during and after the divorce is finalized.

Deion and Pilar Sanders will alternate weeks with their children, according to the court decision. The husband and wife are separating after a reported scuffle at their Prosper mansion led to assault allegations-allegations which were later dismissed by a judge.

Sanders is currently an analyst for the NFL Network. The couple's divorce trial is set to begin in March.

Even in the highest-stakes divorce between a wealthy couple, the most important, valuable asset to be possibly divided between separating spouses are the children that the couple shares. Working directly with an attorney skilled in both high-asset divorces and child custody agreements can help to guarantee that the final terms of a separation allow capable, deserving parents to continue to spend quality time raising their kids.
