Jury reaches decision regarding child custody in Sanders divorce

A jury in Collin County has now reached a decision regarding custody in the divorce case of former Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders and his wife Pilar. The couple, who married in 1999, split in late 2011 and, according to reports, has not split amicably, disagreeing over many of the issues presented by the divorce, including division of property, child support, and custody of their three children.

In their child custody ruling, the jury awarded Deion Sanders primary conservatorship of the couple's sons and joint conservatorship of their daughter. The ruling means that Sanders can make decisions regarding education and residence of the children, but the courts will decide the visitation schedule. Both parents say they are looking out for the best interests of their children.

Sanders and his wife have not yet finalized their divorce, but the jury has also decreed that the prenuptial agreement signed by the couple will stand. Attorneys for Pilar Sanders had claimed that parts of the agreement regarding property division were forged, but the jury found that the agreement is legitimate and said that the property will be divided as laid out in the pre-nup.

Divorcing couples may be experiencing a range of emotions and face many decisions regarding everything from property and assets to custody and parenting time. These decisions may be complicated, and estranged couples in Texas may find that they cannot agree on many factors of a divorce settlement. Consulting the expertise of an experienced divorce attorney can be beneficial in understanding and settling the disputes present during the termination of a marriage.
