Psychologist deems father incapable of caring for son

Texas parents may be interested in reading about a New York man in the middle of a custody battle who is suing a psychologist that recommended to the judge that his visitation time be reduced after he refused to take his 4-year-old son to McDonald's. The father had stated that his son had started throwing a temper tantrum, and he didn't want to reward bad behavior.

He believed that his son had been eating too much fast food, so he offered him son the option to pick another restaurant or eat nothing at all. The boy refused to eat and so his father returned him to his mother without taking him to McDonald's. When the mother found out about what he'd done, she notified the psychologist, who then reported the incident to the judge handling the parents' already-contentious child custody action.

The psychologist claimed that the actions reflected an inability of the man to care for his son. Now the father states that he wishes he had just relented and given in to his son's wishes instead of trying to make a point, but he is still suing the psychologist for defamation. A family therapist was quoted as saying that she believed that what the father did constituted good parenting.

Parents who find themselves in bitter child custody battles might want to seek the counsel of family law attorneys who may be able to help in getting a court to determine that granting them would be in the best interest of their children. Attorneys may be able to furnish advice on other aspects of their divorces as well.
