Captain and Tennille divorcing

Dallas couples who have remained together during difficult times by remembering the song "Love Will Keep Us Together" may be shaken after learning of the breakup between the celebrity couple Captain and Tennille. The two have announced their split on their website and through a divorce filing in court.

The pair launched into stardom in the 1970s. They won a Grammy award for record of the year in 1975 with their hit "Love Will Keep Us Together." They were also wed in 1975. They officially retired in 2008. However, Tennille has been more active in recent years by singing at local spots in Prescott where they reside. "Toni," now 73, was the one who chose to file for divorce against Daryl Dragon, "The Captain." The married pop duo had a total of 14 hit songs during their career, including six that were on the Top 10 list. However, Dragon's health has declined in recent years. Tennille previously wrote that Dragon had a neurological condition that caused him to suffer tremors that prevented him from playing the keyboard.

In the divorce petition, Tennille stated that the marriage was irretrievably broken. The couple has no children together. The two were married for 38 years. On their website, they have listed their reason for their parting as evolving over time and developing hidden feelings. The petition for divorce requests that community property and debt be divided equitably. It also states that neither spouse needs or is entitled to receive spousal support.

If a high-asset couple is seeking a divorce, each spouse may pursue independent legal advice from a family law attorney. An attorney may be able to provide the spouse with advice regarding how to equally divide the marital estate and how to account for marital property.
